Our Mission

In the UCLA Liquid Biopsy Laboratory we develop nanotechnology-based solutions to diagnostic and therapeutic needs in cancer and genetic diseases. We are located at the University of California, Los Angeles and affiliated with the Department of Molecular & Medical Pharmacology, California NanoSystems Institute, Crump Institute for Molecular Imaging, and the Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center.  

By incorporating nanomaterials into our devices we have been able to develop specialized assays for the capture and characterization of rare cells and extracellular vesicles. We’ve also developed a self-assembly synthetic approach to prepare supramolecular nanoparticle (SMNP) vectors for diagnostic and therapeutic applications in cancer and genetic diseases.
